Art Wall Legend II
What we believe is the pinnacle of Japanese craft: kiri, kozo, and gold and silver leaf, three traditions made new for the wall, by hand.
Discover Art Wall Legend II
This collection was introduced to create what we believe is the pinnacle of Japanese craft. Kiri, the paulownia; kozo, the paper mulberry; and gold and silver leaf: three traditional materials, made by hand for the wall, each bringing its own texture and character to a room.
Genuine silver leaf is smoked to develop its distinctive variations in colour.

Bronze-toned wallcovering catches the light, bringing warmth and depth to the room.
Handmade Japanese wallcoverings since 1923.

Kiri sliced so thin its grain becomes the pattern; kozo creased by hand into washi; gold and silver leaf laid one square at a time. We believe a wall should carry the hand that made it.
Our craft
In 1988 Tomita made the first washi wallcovering collection in Japan. Kozo VI is its sixth volume, crumpled, dyed and painted by hand in Inshu, so no two sheets are quite alike.

Hana, the flower: the camellia of early spring, the bush clover and pampas grass of autumn, each drawn for its feeling as much as its form.

Papermaking reached Japan in the seventh century, and for 1,300 years washi has covered the fusuma that shape the Japanese room. In 1988 Tomita made the first washi wallcovering collection in Japan. Kozo VI is its sixth volume: the long fibres of the paper mulberry, crumpled, creased, dyed and painted by hand in Inshu, so that no two sheets are quite alike.
Discover Kozo VIHana, the flower. The camellia of early spring, the bush clover and pampas grass of autumn: a sensitivity to the passing seasons runs deep in the Japanese sense of beauty. Hana V draws each for its feeling as much as its form, with lustres and textures that render light and shadow, from clear daylight to a landscape under the moon.

Woven paper yarn, backed with silver metallic paper. The raised weave and variations in colour give the wall its texture and depth.
Kunpu is hand-painted on Japanese washi paper, with a pattern inspired by clouds. Variations in the brushwork and paper make each surface slightly different.
